About Meteors
Meteors are fragments of rock and metal that enter Earth's atmosphere from space. As they travel through the atmosphere, friction causes them to burn brightly, creating a streak of light we often call a "shooting star".
Types of Meteors
- Stony Meteors – Mostly composed of silicate minerals.
- Iron Meteors – Made primarily of metallic iron and nickel.
- Stony-Iron Meteors – Contain both silicate rock and metallic iron.
